DESCRIPTION:This in-person immersive four-day training is designed for Youth Diversion Team facilitators and case managers looking to deepen their understanding of trauma-informed restorative justice within the diversion process. Participants will explore the philosophy\, principles\, and practical application of restorative justice to support more positive outcomes for youth with arrestable offenses. Based on the NEW Policy and Procedures Manual for Youth Diversion Teams\, this training will incorporate group discussions\, hands-on exercises\, role plays\, and videos. (Eligible for 26 CECs) \n\n\n\nEligibility: \n\n\n\n1.  JRB/YDT Facilitator or Case Managers only  \n\n\n\n2.  Have previously taken RJ 101 and 201 \n\n\n\n3.  Must attend all four days of training \n\n\n\nFree

DESCRIPTION:In this virtual session\, we will deconstruct the juvenile justice system (why and how it is often harmful)\, and how we then replicate many of its elements in our diversion processes. We will see how Restorative Justice speaks to the failures of our justice system and allows us to operate in a way that is consistent with research about how the developing minds of young people work. We will also explore how trauma interrupts development and impacts children’s behavior. This session will give participants a deeper understanding of what restorative justice is and how it differs from our traditional systems while still getting the outcomes we want.
